Robins are not, I repeat
not the meek little worm-pullers they pretend. Went for a walk here in Saanichton yesterday, though a park crammed with barred owls. I can't remember ever spotting an owl in the wild before, and certainly not this close up, so seeing five in 20 minutes was pretty cool by itself. But the robins made my day. Apparently barred owls feast on robin eggs and fledglings after dark. During the daytime, though, the robins go vigilante. Five or six of them stalk each owl around, chirping the alarm and
divebombing the poor bastards when their backs were turned. Will try to get some video of this soon, since I scarcely believe it myself. Sigh. No sleep for the wicked. No sleep for Owl.
